“Alpabzug” the descent to the valley livestock, an old alpine tradition – Weggis, Switzerland

Autumn…. changes every season and time for the cattle during the spring and summer months enjoyed the green pastures of the Alps, down to the valleys for the winter.

This interesting tradition can be enjoyed in many villages in Switzerland, where locals, and curious tourists gather to enjoy a feast, in which they can also be tasted typical meals and visit small markets that offer products of the season and region.

Cattle are decorated with colorful costumes, normally flags, cowbells and wreaths and sunflowers shining in a cheerful parade accompanied by their caregivers who are with autumnal scenery as a backdrop that is dyed red, verdes, ochres and yellows in the luxuriance of vegetation.

I think this tradition is really a legacy. Legacy that was passed down from generation to generation and worth enjoying if we are in the area at this time of year, end of September, beginning of October.

My visit was in the village of Weggis, canton Lucerne, where I also had the opportunity, then the parade, to hear a live orchestra which pleased the party with music outdoors. Tampoco falto por supuesto el sonido característico del “Alphorn”, alpine horn, which it is a wind instrument typical of Switzerland.
