Cloister of the Jeronimos Monastery, Lisboa – Portugal

 

In the magnificent Cloister of the Jeronimos Monastery from Lisbon, It is evident the architectural style of this monument, Manueline style. It is a style of Portugal that begins its development from the fifteenth century and that the late Gothic and the Renaissance is based, It incorporates elements of Portuguese art as well as Mudejar and Morisco art.

The whole of the Jerónimos monastery began its building at the beginning of the 16th century and from 1983 It was declared UNESCO World Heritage Together with the Bethlehem Tower located in the vicinity.

In the Jeronimos is the tomb of the Basque Portuguese explorer da gama, navigator for which it was ordered to build this building, that commemorates his return to the homeland, located on a hermitage where he and his sailors made his prayers before leaving for the Indies.

Built in different stages and incorporating different elements that reveal Portuguese art, It is part of Lisbon monuments worthy of being visited and appreciated.

The cloister along with the interior of the Church and the access portals stand out in this fantastic architectural monument.
